Raids at Koda’s places not a political issue: Congress

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Congress party Wednesday denied that it was in the know of the raids conducted on former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda’s residence and his associates’ offices across the country.

“It is totally unfounded. We don’t look at the issue politically,” said Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed, reacting to a question whether the move against Koda was with the knowledge of the party.

The party also maintained that the raids were not a political issue. “It is a question of probity in public life,” Ahmed told reporters here.

He said the Congress had supported the Madhu Koda government in Jharkhand (2006-08) from outside as the party was “very particular that the people of Jharkhand should be served with a government for the proper development of the state”.

“If somebody has done anything against the trust of the people, he will have to undergo public scruitiny,” the Congress spokesman added.

The Income Tax department and Enforcement Directorate have conducted raids at 70 places in eight Indian cities in connection with corruption allegations against Koda and his associates Vinod Kumar Sinha and Sanjay Chaudhary.
