Pakistani brigadier shot in Islamabad

By IANS,

Islamabad : A Pakistani Army brigadier and his driver were shot by gunmen in the national capital Friday, police said.

This is the third attack on a senior army officer in a fortnight in the heavily guarded capital. While a brigadier was shot dead Oct 22, another brigadier escaped unhurt in an attack by terrorists.

On Friday morning, gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire at the brigadier when he was travelling in an army jeep in posh I-8 sector of Islamabad.

Brigadier Suhail and his driver were injured, Xinhua quoted Senior Superintendent of Police Fakhar Alam as saying.

A pistol was recovered from the site of the attack.

On Oct 22, Brig Moinuddin Ahmad was killed by militants in Islamabad while he was on his way to office.

Five days later, Brig Waqar Ahmad Malik, director of defence services guards at the army headquarters, was going to a bank along with his mother in his official car when a gunman opened fire on him. He escaped unhurt.

Taliban has dramatically stepped up terror strikes across the country as the Pakistani army battles them in the mountainous South Waziristan region.

Over 200 people have been killed since Oct 5 in a series of terror attacks, including massive bombings.
