Happenings in Pakistan affect India more than any other country: Indian PM

New Delhi : Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said here that happenings in Pakistan affect India more than any other country in the world.

“We reviewed the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan and emphasized the need for concerted international action to combat terrorism,” Singh said at a joint press conference after the meeting of the 10th India EU Summit on Friday.

“We are in this region, what happens in Afghanistan, what happens in Pakistan affects us much more intimately than other countries in the world. So, we have a vital stake in peace, stability and progress not only in Afghanistan but also in Pakistan,” Singh said while responding to a question.

Prime Minister Reinfeldt of Sweden and President Barroso of the European Commission, who attended the Summit were also present at the press conference. Sweden is the current Chair of the EU.

“Efforts to counter terrorism can only be successful with a sustained and comprehensive approach. They should be pursued in full respect of international law,” the joint declaration adopted at the Summit said.

The two sides agreed to finalise an agreement between Europol and its Indian counterpart to coordinate fight against terror,

The leaders condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, committed by whomever, wherever and for whatever purpose.

The two sides also signed an agreement in civil nuclear field.
