Kochi: The Kerala satate Waqf Board initiated talks to solve the problems between the opposing Salafi groups in the state. Talks were begun on Tuesday in the office of the Waqf Board in Kochi in which the leaders of both groups such as Hussain Madavoor and TP Abdullakoya Madani attended.

In the first phase of talks, importance will be given to settle the cases filed before the Waqf Board. There are around 15 cases filed by both parties before the Board. Waqf Board chairman KV Abdul Qader, MLA, sub-committee chairman K Saidalikkutty, Adv PV Sainudheen, Abdul Rahman Peringadi, AC Mayin Haji and CEO Jamal also were present at the talks.

“We are trying to see if we can settle the problems filed before the Board without taking them all to the court”, said Board chairman KV Abdul Qader, MLA, to TCN. “Both groups have different opinions. We hope the problems can be solved if both parties sit together and talk.”

The Waqf Board had formed a sub-committee chaired by Adv Saidalikkutty to solve the cases. Adv PV Sainudheen, PP Abdurahman Peringadi and Waqf Board CEO Jamal Muhammed are the members of the sub-committee.

There have been several conflicts related to ownership of institutions and mosques in different parts of the state after the split in the Kerala Nadvatul Mujahideen. Now the Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen is headed by TP Abdullakoya Madani and AP Aboobaker Moulvi. The other group is named the Nadvathul Mujahideen Kerala and is headed by Dr Hussain Madavoor and Dr EK Ahmed Kutty. Both salafi organisations work actively in various fields like education (religious and material), women empowerment and health.
