Dengue cases cross 1,000 mark in Delhi

New Delhi : The total number of dengue cases in the capital has crossed the 1,000 mark. As on Monday, 10 fresh cases of the vector-borne disease were reported, taking the total number of cases to 1,009, health officials said.

“Ten fresh cases of dengue have been reported in the capital Monday. This has taken the total number of cases from 999 to 1,009,” state nodal officer for dengue cases Debashish Bhattacharya told IANS.

“Of the total confirmed and reported cases, 13 are from outside Delhi,” he added.

As of now, there have been two deaths reported because of dengue, one of a 15-year-old boy and the other of a nine-year-old boy.

While Bhattacharya said that with the onset of winters the number of dengue cases will go down, it will be another seven to ten days before the down-trend is noticed.

“The dengue causing mosquitoes cannot breed below a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, hence with the onset of winter and decreasing temperature, the number of cases reported would significantly die down,” Bhattacharya said.

“However, since people bitten by the mosquitoes about seven to ten days back will start developing the symptoms only now, new cases
