Chandigarh : A woman here had to prove that she was the mother of 38-day-old twin girls, who were allegedly kidnapped Monday, before the babies here restored to her Tuesday, police said.
Simran, a resident of Sector 44 here, had to show the birth certificates in the local court and take its consent, before getting her daughters back from the police Tuesday evening.
Simran called the police control room Monday afternoon and told them that two women had kidnapped her daughters, Neha and Isha, after forcibly entering her house, a police official said.
She told the police that she followed the women on foot up to six-seven kilometres but after that the women fled in a car.
“Only minutes after getting this complaint, police found two infants lying abandoned in Rose Garden. We called the complainant for verification and she recognised them. However, we were not satisfied with mere statements so we told her to prove her authenticity first in the court,” Uday Pal, investigating officer of the case said here Tuesday evening.
“We are still not satisfied and we would again interrogate Simran as the story that she had told police is contradictory with the statements of the eyewitnesses,” she added.
