New Delhi: Only one new case of dengue was reported in Delhi Wednesday signalling a fall in the number of cases of the mosquito-borne disease following the onset of winter, a health department official said.
“On Wednesday, Delhi reported just one new case of dengue. The fall in the number of such cases is because of the dipping temperatures. The breeding of the carrier mosquito cannot occur below 15 degrees Celsius,” official told IANS.
The minimum temperature recorded Wednesday was a notch below the average, at 8.3 degree Celsius.
With Wednesday’s fresh case, the tally of those affected by dengue in the city has risen to 1,140, the official added.
Of the affected, 15 patients are from outside Delhi.
Three people have died due to the disease this year in Delhi – two boys aged 15 and 10 and a 45-year-old man.
Last year, the capital reported two dengue deaths and a total of 1,312 cases.
