Srinagar: On the 61st anniversary of International Human Right Day-10 December- All Jammu Kashmir Students Front (AJKSF) has organized a signature collection campaign to highlight this universal declaration and called upon all countries including members of United Nations to respect the Fundamental Human Rights which are often violated across the globe.
It was 10th December 1948, when the United Nations General Assembly adopted to observe the day as International Human Rights Day, to remind the people that all human beings are born with equal and inalienable rights and fundamental freedoms.
On the occasion, AJKSF activists informed the people briefly about the basic human rights and made them aware about the different aspects of this universal declaration of human rights like right to freedom of expression & equality, right to an effective remedy by the competent national tribunals, rights against subjection to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile, right to free choice of employment, to have a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being, right to education etc.
In a statement, AJKSF stated that it firmly believes that respecting fundamental human rights forms the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world is essential because disregard human rights result in disputes and conflicts leading to loss of precious lives, property, peace such as in Kashmir, Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, Congo and in many other parts of the world.
It also expressed its concern over situation of Kashmir where killings, torture, detentions, rape, custodial killings and other forms of human rights violation continue and demanded to end it as soon as possible for restoring the peace in entire sub-continent.
Though police threatened not to organize the campaign otherwise they would tore down the board and put the members of AJKSF behind bars but AJKSF activists carried out the campaign peacefully and effectively.
