Uttar Pradesh official gets 15 days in jail

By IANS,

Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court Friday ordered 15-day imprisonment to Aligarh Development Authority vice-chairman Rama Shankar for contempt of court, officials said.

A fine of Rs.2,000 was also imposed on the official.

Justice D.P. Singh, who passed the order, later suspended its implementation till Dec 17, following the request of the counsel of the senior Provincial Civil Service (PCS) officer, they added.

Petitioner Ram Swaroop had filed a writ in the court alleging that the Aligarh Development Authority had illegally occupied his land in Aelampur village for construction of the Kanshi Ram Awas Yojna.

The court Dec 11, 2008 had then directed the civic agency’s vice-chairman to maintain the status quo till further orders.

However, Swaroop again moved a contempt writ, alleging that the vice-chairman flouted the court’s order and continued with the construction work on his land.
