TRS chief’s daughter faces cases for provocative call

Hyderabad : Hyderabad police have booked Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao’s daughter K. Kavita for making a provocative statement against the screening of the Telugu film “Adurs.”

Kavita, president of the Telangana Jana Jagruthi, the cultural arm of the TRS, Jan 12 called upon the people to stall the film in Telangana on the grounds that its producers were opposed to the demand for a separate Telangana region.

Banjara Hills police station booked suo moto cases against her for making a provocative statement and for criminal intimidation.

Though the cases were booked Jan 12, the day when she addressed a news conference, they were revealed by the police Friday, a day after the TRS withdrew the film boycott call.

Police said the cases were under investigation and they would take further action after analysing Kavita’s news conference tapes.

TRS workers had disrupted the screening of the film Wednesday in several Telangana towns. They also set afire cut-outs and posters of the film.

However, the party withdrew the boycott Thursday after it was criticised by other parties. The all-party Joint Action Committee (JAC), fighting for a separate Telangana, state, had also raised objections to the film boycott.

Kodali Venkateswara Rao alias Naani and V. Vamsi Mohan, the producers of “Adurs”, are leaders of the Telugu Desam Party. Kavita has alleged that they were supporting the movement against bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
