New Delhi: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will represent the union government as well as the Congress at the last rites of Marxist leader Jyoti Basu, Congress sources said here Sunday.
The sources said Mukherjee, who is scheduled to leave for Kolkota Monday, will represent the party and the government.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had visited Jyoti Basu in a Kolkata hospital Jan 8 and inquired about his condition.
Also in the city Saturday, at the 150th anniversary celebrations of St. Xavier’s College, Manmohan Singh had wished Jyoti Basu speedy recovery. Basu, who died Sunday, was a St. Xavier’s alumnus.
