Thakur, Chouhan condole Basu’s death

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Thakur and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Sunday condoled the death of veteran communist leader and former West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu.

Thakur, in his condolence message, said that the country has lost an important leader. Chouhan said that Basu’s passing away was an irreparable loss for the country’s political arena.

“I express my deep condolence to the family members of the departed leader,” said Chouhan, who also announced one-day state mourning.

Communist Party of India-Marxist(CPI-M) leaders and workers here also expressed grief over the demise of Basu. Member of CPI(M)’s central committee and state secretary Badal Saroj said Basu’s death was a jolt to left politics in the country, while Communist Party of India (CPI) state secretary Mahendra Vajpayee said it was a great loss for the communist movement.
