Rahul Gandhi to meet Malaysian PM Thursday

By IANS,

New Delhi: Visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Mohammed Najib Tun Razak will have a separate meeting with Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Thursday.

The reason for the separate meeting was not explained and is bound to raise some diplomatic eyebrows.

This is perhaps for the first time a visiting head of government is having a separate meeting with the Gandhi scion.

The last known diplomatic exposure Rahul Gandhi has had was when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took him as part of his delegation to Afghanistan in August 2005.

He is quite impressed by Malaysia’s success in building a modern economy and modern infrastructure, reliable sources said when asked about Gandhi’s meeting with Razak.

“As a Congress general secretary, he meets people from a very wide spectrum, both domestic and international. I think he is only discharging his duties as a general secretary of a political party. Congress viewpoint is being articulated by younger generation,” was all Congress spokesman Manish Tewari had to say on Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with the Malaysian leader.
