Lucknow : Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will start a two-day tour of his constituency Amethi Thursday during which he will evaluate a number of public welfare schemes sponsored by the central government, a party spokesperson said Wednesday.
“Rahul Gandhi will make surprise visits to a number of villages of his Amethi constituency and also interact with the locals to know the ground realities about various central government-sponsored public schemes,” spokesperson of the party’s Uttar Pradesh unit Akhilesh Pratap Singh told reporters here.
On the first day, he would focus on evaluation of developmental schemes, particularly the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (rural electrification project), and also meet members of self-help groups constituted under the Rajiv Gandhi Women’s Development Project, party officials said.
The Congress parliamentarian from Amethi in Sultanpur district, some 150 km from Lucknow, will hold meetings with the party workers and issue necessary directives to them on the second day.
Gandhi will leave for Delhi Friday evening, they added.
