Bangladesh: PM leaves for Kuwait today

Dhaka, Bangladesh : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaves Dhaka for Kuwait city, the capital of Kuwait, today afternoon on a three-day official visit to the Gulf State.

A special aircraft to be sent by the Emir of Kuwait will carry the Bangladesh’s Premier and members of her entourage to the oil rich
Arab country, official sources told BSS yesterday.

The Prime Minister will lead a high profile Bangladesh delegation to Kuwait including ministers and high government officials.

Her delegation members include Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, State Minister for Environment and Forest Dr Hasan Mahmud, Ambassador At-Large M Ziauddin, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Abdus Sobhan Golap, Principal Secretary M A Karim and Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad.

During her busy schedule in Kuwait, Sheikh Hasina will hold a meeting with Emir of State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al- Sabah on Monday (February 8) at the Dewani Emir.

An official level talks between the two countries will be held at 6.15 pm (local time) when manpower export from Bangladesh, Kuwaiti support for different development projects here and expansion of bilateral trade are expected to be discussed.

Before the talks, Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina and her Kuwait counterpart Sheikh Nasser Al- Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah will have exclusive one-to-one meeting on the same day. Later, Sheikh Hasina will join a banquet hosted by Prime Minister of Kuwait.

She will visit Kuwait Chamber of ommerce and have lunch there.

Sheikh Hasina will also deliver a speech during the luncheon to be hosted by Kuwait Chamber of Commerce when she is xpected to call upon the Kuwaiti entrepreneurs to further increase their investment in power, telecommunications, infrastructure, gas, leather and agro-based industries sectors in Bangladesh.

According to Prime Minister’s Office sources, the Prime Minister is likely to urge the Kuwaiti entrepreneurs to import Bangladesh’s high quality garments, ceramics and pharmaceuticals, which have been considered as popular items in the developed world.

Besides, Speaker of Kuwait Parliament Jassem Al Khorafi, First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber al Mubarak al Hamad al Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Dr Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al- Sabah, Director General of Fund for Economic Development Abdulwahab Al-Bader and Managing Director of Kuwait Investment Authority Bader M. Al Saad will pay courtesy calls on Bangladesh Prime Minister on Monday at Bayan Palace where the PM will be staying.

On Tuesday (February 9), a number of Kuwaiti dignitaries will call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Later, she will visit Kuwait Oil Company at Ahmedya and have lunch there to be hosted by Governor of Ahmedya.

In the afternoon, the Bangladesh premier will attend a community reception.

She will leave Kuwait at 7 pm (local time) on Tuesday by the special aircraft and arrive at Dhaka International Airport in the early morning of Wednesday.
