Bhubaneswar : A school teacher was Tuesday suspended in Orissa following the death of a student who had been beaten up by him for failing to answer a question, an official said.
Dambarudhar Rana, a teacher at George High School at Bargarh town, some 380 km from here, allegedly beat up class six student Ajaya Kumar Jena Jan 29.
The boy complained of severe chest pain and was admitted to a local hospital, where he died Saturday while undergoing treatment.
The district authorities suspended the teacher after scores of residents Monday staged a protest in the town demanding action against him, a district administrative official told IANS Tuesday.
The teacher not only physically and mentally abused the 11-year-old boy, he also asked some other students to punish him, the boy’s family alleged.
Police have registered a murder case against the teacher and are investigating the matter.
