Delhi government for decongesting observation home

By IANS,

New Delhi : After the death of 20 mentally challenged inmates over the past two months in a north-west Delhi observation home, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Wednesday ordered that the state-run facility be decongested and its facilities improved.

“We have decided to shift inmates from Asha Kiran observation home in Rohini to three other buildings to provide them proper care and treatment,” Dikshit told reporters here.

The observation home was housing 730 mentally challenged people against the capacity of 350.

The Delhi government has also ordered deployment of more helpers, nurses and sweepers in each of these observation homes.

Dikshit also instructed that a review of all existing observation homes should be conducted to avoid any untoward incident.
