New Delhi: India’s Hockey World Cup campaign received a jolt Monday with centre forward Shivendra Singh handed a three-match suspension for deliberately hitting a Pakistani player in their Pool B game Sunday.
“He has been suspended for three matches for deliberately hitting a Pakistan player,” FIH communication manager Arjen Meijer told IANS.
However, he said, the Indians were free to appeal against the suspension. “The appeal could be heard before their Tuesday match against Australia,” Meijer said.
Shivendra struck the first goal in India’s emphatic 4-1 win over Pakistan.
