Bishnoi sits on hunger strike in Chandigarh

By IANS,

Chandigarh : Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) chief Kuldeep Bishnoi Monday went on hunger strike to protest against the cancellation of his meetings with Punjab Governor and Chandigarh administrator Shivraj Patil to tell him about police “atrocities” on his party workers.

Bishnoi had taken an appointment for 11.30 a.m. Monday but was told it had been cancelled. He then launched the hunger strike with 10 other party colleagues here.

“Every day 11 members of my party will sit on hunger strike till the end of the Haryana assembly session (March 16). Our protest is again the wrong policies of Congress-led state government,” he said.

Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Friday used batons, tear gas and water cannons to disperse more than 2,000 HJC workers, led by Bishnoi, protesting against the Haryana government policies.
