New Delhi : The Hockey World Cup here has already seen several high-scoring matches, and it is turning out to be the most prolific for the goals struck.
After 24 games, 133 goals have been scored, at an average of 5.54 goals a match, said an official release.
The figure eclipses the 1994 World Cup average of 4.98 goals a match.
Only two games in the competition have been drawn, and both involved defending champions Germany. They were held 2-2 by Korea in their opener, and the Netherlands forced them to an identical result in another Pool A match Sunday.
Australia’s 12-0 massacre of South Africa in Pool B Thursday and Korea’s thumping 9-2 win over Canada in Pool A Sunday boosted the average.
Seventy three players have got into the scorers’ list, with 51 goals coming from penalty corners and four from strokes.
