Mumbai : The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Monday formed a three-member committee of former India captains to work out the modalities to enable the present franchisees retain players for the fourth edition of the Twenty20 league next year.
From 2011, the IPL will have two new teams taking the number to 10 and a fresh auction for all the players. The existing eight franchises will be allowed to retain three foriegn and four Indian cricketers.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar, who chaired the meeting Monday, said: “We will go further ahead with the IPL in 2011.
“We have appointed Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar and M.A.K. Pataudi to discuss and decide the modalities, regarding the retaining of four Indian cricketers and three foreign players by the existing franchises. After discussing the issue with the franchisees, they will come back to the board, so that a final decision can be taken.”
Manohar said the next Governing Council meeting would take place sometime in June, and by then the modalities of retaining players should have been worked out.
