Bajaj Auto May sales up 62 percent

Mumbai : Two-wheeler and commercial vehicles major Bajaj Auto Tuesday reported a 62 percent rise in total sales for May at 299,442 units, compared to 185,341 vehicles it sold in the year-ago period.

Flagship motorcycle brands Pulsar (75,974 units) and Discover (107,076 units) represented 68 percent of the motorcycle sales, the company said in a statement.

Total motorcycle sales rose 63 percent at 269.488 units, while scooter sales were at 648.

Three-wheeler sales stood at 29,954 units, a rise of 52 percent from the 185,341 units the company sold in May 2009.

During the month under review, Bajaj exported 95,964 units, an increase of 64 percent over the previous corresponding month.

Overall sales have grown 73 percent in the first two months of the current fiscal at 612,914 units.

The company has set a target of increasing motorcycle sales by 50 percent in 2010-11 with average sales of 300,000 motorbikes every month starting May.
