Mumbai: A key index for Indian equities ended trade on a flat note Monday, recording lower volumes as many traders and investors were inactive because of the “Bharat Bandh” called by opposition parties against the hike in fuel prices.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,473.83 points, closed at 17,431.31 points (provisional), 29.64 points or 0.17 percent down from its previous close at 17,460.95 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was ruling at 5,233.55 points, down 0.07 percent from its previous close at 5,237.1 points.
Broader markets indices were in the positive terrain, with the BSE midcap index ending 0.29 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index 0.39 percent up.
