Jammu : Over 30 people were injured when a clash broke out between army personnel and hundreds of youth who had gathered for a recruitment drive in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, an official said.
Trouble started when the number of youth seeking recruitment in the Territorial Army in Rajouri’s Palma area swelled, making it difficult for the soldiers to control the situation, considering the limited space available.
The army personnel tried to control the crowd and used batons, triggering a stampede.
More than 30 people were injured in the incident and six of them are said to be critical, a district official said.
Angered by the baton charge, the youth pelted stones at the soldiers and also torched an army vehicle.
While the recruitment drive in Rajouri, some 160 km from here, was called off, the police stepped in to restore order.
No army officer available was available for comment.
