Raipur : The monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh assembly that began Monday was adjourned for the day after tributes were paid to late vice president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, a deceased Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator and those killed in Maoist violence.
As soon as the house assembled at 11 a.m., Speaker Dharmlal Kaushik and legislators offered condolences for Shekhawat, who died in May, and Ravi Shankar Tripathi, the BJP legislator from the Bhatgaon assembly seat in Surguja district, who was killed in April in a car crash.
The house also remembered two former members of the assembly in undivided Madhya Pradesh – Ramkumar Agrawal and Jayaben – besides policemen and civilians who were killed in Maoist violence.
The monsoon session will conclude Aug 3 with just seven sittings.
The Congress has announced it will grill the BJP government in the house for repeated Maoist attacks in the state. The Congress has 39 members in the 90-member assembly while the ruling BJP has 48 members. The Bahujan Samaj Party has two members while one seat is vacant.
