More IAF aircraft head for Leh with relief supplies

Jammu : The Indian Air Force has pressed more aircraft into service to take relief material to to the flash floods-hit Leh region of Jammu and Kashmir and has also started airlifting bodies of the victims, a defence officer said Sunday.

Besides Chandigarh and Delhi, IAF aircraft are now picking up relief supplies from Jammu and Udhampur as well, an army spokesman here said.

“An IL-76 and AN-32 transport planes took off from Jammu and Udhampur Sunday with relief material and also debris clearing machines like earthmovers and engineering equipment, provided by the Northern Command of the Indian Army,” the spokesman said.

Two AN-32 aircraft brought 11 bodies of labourers who were working at a site near Leh to Udhampur. The bodies have been handed over to the district administration as most of the dead belong to Kishtwar area of Jammu region.
