New Delhi: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and noted lawyer Ravi Shankar Prasad Tuesday asked the historians, who are opposing the excavation report of the disputed Ayodhya site, to make their points “only in the courts” if they were “serious” on the issue.
Speaking at a forum to discuss the Ayodhya verdict, Prasad said the historians who also criticised the courts discussing the issue should “understand the Indian judicial system”.
The BJP leader said the excavation report – the findings of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) – were relied on by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court while delivering the judgment.
The historians had claimed that the reports were not conclusive.
In the report, it was pointed out that a massive structure resembling a north Indian temple was found under the disputed place in Ayodhya. It had also found several structures of the 10th century.
A temple with 50 pillars, lotus symbol, statues of Hindu gods and goddesses was found below the disputed land, according to the report.
