Delhi University warns teachers’ association against strike

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Delhi University administration Friday warned its teachers’ association that ‘no work no pay’ decision of the university will be strictly enforced by all the colleges if it goes on its scheduled week-long strike from Oct 25.

In a circular, the registrar said teaching has already suffered in the current academic session due to frequent strikes and the university had to modify the academic calender to make up for the loss of teaching.

“Principals of colleges are therefore requested to impress upon teachers of their respective colleges not to strike work as it would harm the interest of students irreparably,” the circular by the registrar said.

The teaching and the administrative staff of Delhi University are at loggerheads over semester system put in place in 13 undergraduate science courses by Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental.

Recently, the university sent a circular to all principals of colleges saying the vice chancellor has decided that the teachers who abstain from duty because of dharnas and demonstrations should not be paid for the period.

In the coming week, the Delhi University Teachers Association will hold dharnas in colleges.
