Ghaziabad: About a dozen armed dacoits looted cash and jewellery worth over Rs.one crore from a finance company’s Ghaziabad branch Saturday, police said.
The incident took place around 9.30 a.m. at Muthooth Finance Limited’s Shalimar Garden Extension II office, police said.
Police said the dacoits armed with pistols barged into the company’s office, overpowered the security guard and snatched his gun, removed sensors of CCTV camera and destroyed two surveillance cameras before committing the dacoity.
The dacoits snatched the keys of safety lockers from the branch manager and took away the gold. They also looted Rs.600,000 from the cashier, police said.
An inventory of the gold was being prepared and the exact amount of loss would be revealed only after it was completed, police said.
“The gold taken by the dacoits should be valued at about Rs.one crore in addition to the cash,” said Abhinav Chobey, chief marketing manager of the company.
The dacoits remained in the company office for about 35 minutes.
