Guangzhou: India’s Mahita Mohan finished last in the women’s 500m time trial while other cyclists could not go beyond the qualifying stages in the other three events at the Asian Games here Saturday.
Mahita finished last in the field of 10 cyclists in women’s 500m time trials final. Wai Sze Lee of Hong kong bagged the gold in the event while Shuang Guo of China got the silver.
Sombir finished 20th out of 28 cyclists in the men’s individual pursuit qualifying and did not make the cut for the first round line-up. Sunjae Jang of South Korea and King Lok Cheung won the gold and silver respectively.
With their loss, India’s medal chances in cycling look bleak as coach Chayan Choudhary had pinned medal hopes on Mahita and Sombir.
The results were not very different for India in the women’s individual pursuit qualifying.
Sunita Yanglem Devi and Suchitra Devi Konsam respectively finished 14th and 15th in the line-up of 16 riders. The Chinese domination was evident as Fan Jiang won the gold and South Korean Ahreum Na managed a silver.
In the only team event of the day, India comprising O. Bikram Singh, Amrit Singh and Herbert Sara Hylem came sixth out of the seven teams in the men’s team sprint qualifying.
