Congress says no need of JPC, doesn’t rule it out

By IANS,

New Delhi: The Congress Tuesday said there was no need for Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into the 2G spectrum allocation scam but did not rule out the possibility altogether.

“The party’s view as of today is that there is no need of a JPC. There is the PAC (Public Accounts Committee) which is looking into the CAG’s (comptroller and auditor general) report. We will see after that,” party spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said here.

Asserting that the government is not running away from any discussion, he said: “The responsibility to run the house is both of the ruling party and the opposition,” he said.

Hoping that a way out will be found to end the impasse in parliament, Ahmed said that the opposition should not “devalue the work” of the PAC.

Congress sources, meanwhile, said that the government is unlikely to recommend early adjournment of the winter session even if stalemate in parliament continues for some more time.
