Court reserves order on monitoring spectrum row

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Supreme Court Wednesday reserved its order on a petition seeking the court’s monitoring of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the 2G spectrum controversy.

The apex court bench of Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice A.K. Ganguly also said that they favoured setting up special courts to try offences of huge financial magnitude.

The judges said these courts could come up to try crime covered by the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and other laws dealing with financial offences.

The court made the observation while hearing the 2G spectrum allocation case that has led to the resignation of telecom minister A. Raja from the government of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Raja is accused of giving out spectrum at below-market price, causing huge losses to the national exchequer.
