By IANS,

Abu Dhabi : The Abu Dhabi authorities have launched an “Animal Identification Registration System” (AIRS) to keep data of all the livestock and monitor their health so as to ensure supply of better quality meat and milk in the emirate.

According to the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), which is responsible for agriculture and animal welfare in the emirate, a total of 528,485 livestock were registered with the new AIR system.

The emirate of Abu Dhabi alone constitutes 80 percent of the total UAE livestock.

Khalifa Ahmad Khalfan Al Ali, Executive Director of Strategic Planning and Performance Management, and Mohammad Jalal Al Reyaysa, Director of Communication and Community service at ADFCA, said the project includes marking cattle and implanting a microchip in them.
