“With some reservations from different fringe parties, we decided approved the taskforce decision on the citizenship issue,” Maoist lawmaker Dev Gurung told reporters after the meeting.

According to Gurung, the fringe parties expressed their strong dissatisfaction over the issue demanding thorough discussion and revision of some clauses.

Earlier, the taskforce had fixed a provision that any foreign woman marrying a Nepali man could be able obtain citizenship, but a foreign man marrying a Nepali woman could acquire it only after 15 years from the date of legal marriage.
