Delhi-Howrah rail route disrupted

Lucknow : Rail traffic was disrupted on the busy Delhi-Howrah route after a high-tension wire snapped and fell on the overhead power cable in Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh Thursday, an official said.

The high-tension wire of the Dakshinanchal Vidyut Nigam snapped Thursday morning and damaged the overhead traction cable near the Shikohabad railway station, affecting movement of as many as 10 trains.

Some of the affected long-distance trains include Magadh Express, Gorakhdham Express, Mahananda Express and Jodhpur-Howrah Express.

“Several trains are standing at Firozabad, Etawah, Shikohabad railway stations,” Satnam Singh of the Government Railway Police (GRP) told reporters in Firozabad, some 250 km from here.

“The Up track has been restored and shortly trains’ movement will start on the Down track also,” he said.
