Abu Dhabi : Over 2,600 motorbike riders were booked by traffic police for violating traffic rules in Abu Dhabi in 2010, official statistics show.
Of the 2,681 offences, 1,186 were for exceeding the maximum speed limit, 146 for not wearing helmet, 114 for lane violation, 72 for not holding ownership of the vehicle while driving, 34 for driving in the opposite direction, 25 for driving noisy motorbikes and 13 for running red signals.
Ghaith Al Za’abi, director general of traffic coordination under the ministry of interior, said the figures show how the traffic police had tightened control on roads for the public’s safety.
