Hanoi : The 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) will open on Wednesday in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi, said Nguyen Bac Son, vice chairman of the Central Commission on Communication and Education at a press conference on Monday.
This is an important political event of the CPV as well as the state and people, Son said, adding that it is expected to draw the participation of 1,377 delegates who represent more than 3.6 million party members.
Former leaders of the state and government as well as members of the diplomatic missions and some international organizations will also attend the opening session of the congress, said Son.
According to Son, the 11th National Congress of the CPV will focus on enhancing the party’s leadership capacity and combativeness, promoting the nation’s synergy, comprehensively boosting the renewal process, creating the fundamentals for Vietnam to become a basically modern industrial country by 2020.
During the week-long congress, delegates will hold discussions to adopt four documents, including the platform for national construction in the transitional period to socialism, the political report of the tenth Central Committee submitted to the eleventh congress, the ten-year socio-economic development strategy in the 2011-2020 period and report on the review of the party constitution implementation with some proposals for supplements and amendments, said Son.
In addition, delegates will elect the new CPV Central Committee for the term of 2011-2015, said Son.
