New Delhi : Mohammed Sultan Al Owais, ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to India, met Communications Minister Kapil Sibal here Tuesday and discussed issues related to the telecom sector.
The UAE ambassador, who was accompanied by Mohammed Hassan Omran, chief executive officer of Etisalat, discussed with the Indian minister Etisalat’s investment in the Indian telecommunications market.
Omran assured Sibal Etisalat’s commitment to deliver the best services to the growing Indian market.
Etisalat is one of the 11 companies issued notice by the Supreme Court Monday on a plea seeking cancellation of licences and award of spectrum for second generation (2G) phone services during former communications minister A. Raja’s tenure.
Etisalat is the brand name of the Emirates Telecommunications Corporation. It is a UAE-based telecommunications services provider, currently operating in 18 countries across Asia, the Middle East and Africa. As of November 2009, Etisalat was the 13th largest mobile network operator in the world, with a total customer base of 100 million.
