Status quo on Ayodhya verdict will be maintained till May 31

By TCN Staff Reporter,

Lucknow: The status quo on the implementation of Ayodhya verdict of 30th Sep. 2010 will be maintained till 31st May 2011 as the Allahabad High Court on 9th Feb. gave it another extension. The first extension ends on 15th Feb. In September last, Special Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court had ordered trifurcation of the land on which Babri Masjid was once stood.

While extending the status quo, a full special Bench comprising justices S U Khan, Sudhir Agarwal and V K Dixit reserved its order on three review petitions filed by lawyer M Ismail Farooqui. Farooqui has sought review of the September judgement on the suits of Rajendra Singh, Nirmohi Akhara and Bhagwan Ram Lala Virajman.

In its September judgement the court had ruled that the disputed land will be divided equally into three parts among Hindus and Muslims and that the place where the makeshift temple of Lord Ram exists belongs to Hindus. The court, however, had provided three months time for filing the appeal while directing that the judgement shall not be operative for three months from that date. The court later gave first extension for the period till 15th Feb. 2011.

The next sitting of the full Bench will take place on 28th April 2011.
