Failed to get consensus, Sibal abandons proposal for Madarsa board

By TCN Staff Reporter,

New Delhi: As his efforts to get consensus from the Muslim community did not yield result, Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has thrown out the proposal for a Madarsa Board on the pattern of CBSE or ICSE. The minister on March 3 made it clear that there is no such proposal under consideration of the ministry now.

The HRD Minister said that in the absence of any consensus among the leaders of Muslim community, there is no proposal of any regulatory body like Madarsa Board on the pattern of ICSE. Speaking to press, Mr. Sibal said that he had discussed the proposal with different leaders of the community but didn’t find much support for the proposal.

News about the possible formation of Madarsa board on the pattern of ICSE was going around since Mr. Sibal had agreed to give his full cooperation to the proposal of Jamiat Ulema Hind about such a board during the JUH’s conference on the Right to Education Act last August.

Mr. Sibal also highlighted the fact that Sachar Committee report recommended establishment of Madarsa Board for the modernization of Madarsa education. He said that the focus of the UPA government is to establish vocational training institute in the minority concentrated districts.
