New Delhi: President Pratibha Patil Friday condoled the death of veteran Congress leader Arjun Singh, saying that the nation has lost a “towering personality”.
In her message, the president said: “Arjun Singhji was an experienced public personality. The important responsibilities given to him during his long career showed the acumen and abilities he possessed.”
She said because of these qualities, he was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh three times and also the Punjab governor, during a period when the state was going through difficult times.
“His contributions to parliamentary debates were recognized through his being honoured with the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award in the year 2000. In his passing away the nation as well as the state of Madhya Pradesh has lost a towering personality.”
