Patna : The Bihar Police said Friday it will probe how Hasan Ali Khan, accused of stashing away billions of dollars abroad, got a passport from here on a fake address.
State police chief Neelmani said his men would investigate who issued the passport, who verified the stated address and how Khan got it re-issued.
“It is a matter of surprise that the address on which Hasan Ali Khan was issued a passport in 1997 is of a general nature, with no specific details,” he said.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar said a regional passport officer here had lodged a first information report (FIR) Dec 19 last year against Khan for submitting fake residential proof.
In his passport application, Khan gave Pathantoli locality in Alamganj area in Patna as his address and Belsand village in Sitamarhi district as the permanent address, Kumar said.
Khan is said to have stashed away $8 billion (Rs.36,000 crore) abroad and is allegedly India’s biggest tax defaulter.
