Kolkata: Left Front chairman Biman Bose Sunday accused the Election Commission of taking a “hard stance” and partisan approach towards West Bengal’s ruling communists, while ignoring the transgressions of the Trinamool Congress.
“The Election Commission is taking a hard stance against the communists. This is not fair. We have repeatedly complained to the state election commission and the Election Commission in Delhi about large posters and banners of opposition parties and leaders being displayed at hospitals near Kolkata Municipal Corporation and other government offices,” said Bose at a media meet here.
“No action has been taken yet. On the other hand, posters of the Left parties have been brought down. Day before yesterday (Friday), a red flag was brought down from a trade union office by the EC. Who has given EC the right to bring down the red flag from a trade union office? Nobody has given them this right,” he said.
“The main opposition (Trinamool) in the state is vocal against red flag and if EC also dances according to the tune of the opposition, then it is not culture of West Bengal. The Trinamool flags are also there but they are not being brought down. We condemn this approach of only acting against the Communists,” said Bose.
The model code of conduct for assembly election has come into force from March 1, the day the elections were declared.
Polling in the six-phase elections will be held April 18, 23, 27, May 3, 7 and 10. Counting will take place on May 13.
