Trinamool ropes in Hotmail co-founder Sabeer Bhatia

Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress has roped in Hotmail co-founder Sabeer Bhatia to connect technologically with Gen Next voters and reach out to the masses through cyber space during the West Bengal election campaign and afterwards too, if it comes to power.

Bhatia was at the Trinamool Bhavan Sunday, discussing various aspects of how the party can use mobile phones to reach out to the masses.

“We live in a time when the internet and the information age has changed the world completely. I am very encouraged to share my thoughts with them (Trinamool Congress),” said Bhatia who co-founded Hotmail, the pioneering e-mail service, in the early 1990s.

Bhatia sold Hotmail to software giant Microsoft in 1997.

Going by the advice of Bhatia, the party is planning to develop a portal which will help the common people to communicate directly with Trinamool leaders directly and also to utilise the most from mobile services during campaigning.

“Mobile phones are used by most of the people in the state. If we can reach out to them through mobiles it would not only be a great idea but also a masterstroke against our opposition,” said a Trinamool leader.

The six-phase assembly polls will be held in West Bengal from April 18 to May 10.
