Gandhinagar: The Gujarat High Court Monday came down heavily on the authorities for allowing illegal construction near the boundary wall of a jail in Bhavnagar district.
The bench of Chief Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya and Justice Akil Kureshi directed the inspector general of police (IGP) (prisons) to submit a list of illegal constructions near the jail boundary.
The bench was informed that illegal construction of buildings was made within 220 yards of the jail without approval of the director general (prisons) and IGP (prisons).
The court noted that a large number of multi-storeyed buildings have been constructed close to the jail wall.
Government counsel earlier submitted that the authorities had not granted any no-objection certificates for construction of any flats or development of any industrial plot near the jail.
Counsel for petitioners said that a no-objection certificates was issued for construction of two building – Vaibhav Flat and Sanjivani Flat – close to the jail.
