Nirma stir farm leader meets Modi

Gandhinagar : Kanu Kalsaria, BJP MLA from Mahuva in Bhavnagar district who had taken out a foot march against the proposed setting up of a cement plant by corporate giant Nirma, met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the issue.

He later said he was not happy with the outcome of the talks.

The marchers who started out from Mahuva March 3 reached Gandhinagar Thursday and were addressed by the leaders of the protesting farmers.

Later a delegation of the farmers had a 45-minute long meeting with Narendra Modi.

The delegation submitted a memorandum outlining their stated position and demanded scrapping of the project.

Coming out from the meeting Kalsariya told reporters that he was not happy with the outcome.

They will however wait for the outcome of the matter which comes up before the Supreme Court on Friday.

Meanwhile, an official press release issued here said that Modi gave a patient hearing to the leaders of the marchers who met him in a delegation on their arrival here. They handed him a memorandum in connection with the Mahuva cement plant.

The leaders included Kanubhai Kalsaria, Gandhian Chunibhai Vaidya, Ilaben Pathak and Praful Senjlia.
