Bhubaneswar : Narayan Prasad Das, a decorated soldier who fought for the Indian army during and after World War II, passed away at the age of 92 in his native village in Orissa’s Jajpur district, family sources said Saturday.
Das died Friday evening in his native village, Narilo, about 100 km from here. He is survived by wife, three sons and four daughters.
He joined the Indian army during British rule at the age of 17.
During his 22 years of service in the army, he fought two wars, including World War II in 1939-1945. He also fought against the Nizam in 1948 and the first Indo-Pakistan war in the same year.
He was honoured with three medals — “Burma Star”, “War Medal India” and “Independent Medal”.
