Ranchi : Jharkhand is all set to hike the legislators’ salary, taking it up to Rs.one lakh per month.
The Jharkhand assembly is likely to pass a bill for wage and allowances increase to the state’s legislators.
This is the fifth pay revision for the legislators since the inception of the new state in 2000. The first increase was done in 2001, followed by increments in 2002, 2006 and 2008.
According to reliable government sources, each legislator will get up to Rs.one lakh after hike in salaries, wages and allowances. The salary of the chief minister and the speaker is likely to be hiked to Rs.1.33 lakh each.
The basic pay of each legislator would be hiked from Rs.8,000 in 2008 to Rs.20,000 per month. The leader of opposition in the house would get a basic pay of Rs.39,000 and the chief minister and speaker Rs.40,000 per month.
The matter of wage revision was raised in the house during the ongoing budget session and the speaker constituted an eight-member committee March 7 to work out a consensus on the amount of pay revision.
The report has been submitted to Speaker C.P. Singh and is likely to be tabled and cleared in the house in the current session.
The revised pay will be applicable from the next financial year, starting April 1. Apart from the wage increase, the committee also approved Rs.10 lakh loan each to the members of the house for buying car at a nominal rate of interest.
