Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir’s literacy rate has increased by 13 per cent in the last decade despite the ongoing turmoil, which has affected the every aspect of life, mainly the education.
“The literacy rate in state has increased from 55 per cent in 2001 Census to 68 per cent in the 2011 Census,” Director Census Operations Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Ahmad told media persons here.
The Census further revealed that the state witnessed a dip in the sex ratio and the child sex ratio, the provisional figures of the 2011 census reveals.
While female literacy has increased from 20 per cent in 1981 Census to 58 percent this year, the male literacy has also nearly doubled from 44 per cent to 78 per cent during the corresponding three decades, Farooq said.
