Ranchi : A contempt of court case was filed in the Jharkhand High Court Monday against Congress Lok Sabha member from Ranchi and union Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay for disrupting the ongoing, court-ordered demolition drive in the state.
“A criminal contempt of court case has been filed against Subodh Kant Sahay for disrupting the demolition drive,” said Abhay Mishra, lawyer of Rajesh Kumar, who filed the case.
“The case has been filed as Sahay disrupted the execution of the court order,” Mishra told IANS.
Sahay staged a sit-in at Islamnagar area of Ranchi early this month. The protest had turned violent and police had to open fire on the agitators, which killed one youth and injured three people.
Initially, Kumar filed an intervention petition against Sahay, but the high court asked him to file a contempt of court case.
In the last one month, more than 4,200 illegal structures have been demolished in the state, affecting more than 100,000 people. In the next two to three weeks, the ongoing drive, being carried out on the directive of the Jharkhand High Court, could render more than 500,000 people homeless.
